Equestrian Combat
Not for the feint of heart or coin purse.
Do you know how it feels to be part of a shield wall? Have you ever defended a castle or sworn your allegiance to a King & Queen? Can you honorably wield sword and shield while carrying your ladies favor?
'Heavy Fighting' or 'Heavy Combat' are the terms used to refer to the most common form of combat in the SCA. Wars (scenarios) are won by contests (games) of heavy fighter armies (teams) squaring off against each other. Kings are also chosen by victory in combat at Crown Tournaments.
Heavy fighters have specific requirements for armor to protect themselves against attacks. There are also requirements for the weapons they use. While everyone wants to look like a knight in full steel armor, most fighters starting out will employ a more economical solution as they build their armor 'kit'.
Building your kit is key to getting noticed by a knight who will take you on as a squire and mentor you on your path to knighthood. Of course fighting prowess also helps get you noticed, not to mention your displays of chivalry.
Heavy Combat also includes Combat Archery (Compound or Crossbow), Combat Thrown Weapons (Axes, Spears, Knives, Etc.) and Siege Engines manned by their crews.
